Why some mobile games feel great and others fight your thumbs
I've played hundreds of mobile games and the single biggest difference between a keeper and a delete is controls. A brilliant idea buried under fiddly buttons is still a bad time.
The games that click tend to do less. One-thumb layouts, generous tap zones, and forgiving timing all help. Big Bass Fishin is a nice example: everything happens with simple flicks and taps, so your hand never cramps up chasing tiny targets.
Racers have it harder because you need steering plus actions. The good ones auto-handle throttle and let you focus on turning and drifting. The bad ones cram five buttons into corners your thumbs can't reach.
If you're a developer reading this, test on a small cheap phone, not a tablet. And if you're a player, trust that first-minute feeling. Good controls announce themselves quickly.
